5 Benefits To Creating Your Own Garden Bar

Featured image is The Ridgeway by Outdoor Modular Spaces

The last year seemed to fly but, with nothing to speak of except the Pandemic really. Socialising has taken a back foot and many of us can’t even remember the last time we enjoyed a good night out. With limitations in pubs and bars likely to extend into the summer, some clever people have created their very own garden bar to enjoy a tipple. We take a look at 5 reasons to create your own garden bar below.

No Need to Get Dressed Up

The beauty of having a bar in your back garden is the fact you can enjoy it in your pyjamas if you wish. getting ready for a night out can take hours for some. When you’re drinking in the privacy of your own home there is no dress code, unless you want to implement one. Of course, you may decide to have guests over to drink in your bar with you once allowed, but your friends don’t need you to go to the extent you might to hit the town.

It Will Save You Money

Going out can be costly, there are drinks, outfits, hair and beauty as well as travel expenses to consider. All of these costs can be greatly reduced or even eliminated by having your very own garden bar. No more taxi’s to cover the cost of is just one huge benefit. All that money saved can be spent elsewhere.

Your Friends Will Love You

Tell friends to bring a bottle and add them to the bar whenever you have a party, BBQ or get together. Everyone will want to gather at yours where the amenities are, which once again will save you travelling money. You can create the bar to cater for the things you love ie adding a dartboard, TV or perhaps a karaoke machine.

Your Garden Bar Has The Best Opening Hours

Whenever you decide you want to open up your garden bar, you can. Fancy a drink at 5am, normal bars would be closed, but yours is open to you when you need it! Likewise, whenever you want to go to bed and close up you can. No taxi queues or long journey home, you can stagger up the garden path straight to your bed if you wish.

No Nasty Surprises

We’ve all been to a bar with sticky drinks spilt all over the floor, playing awful cheesy music with uncomfortable seating – if you can even manage to get a seat. The beauty of your garden bar is it’s decorated and furnished to your taste and comfort. There’s always a seat for you and you are the master of the music. Finally, you don’t have to put up with those unwanted company. You choose the guest list. You don’t run the risk of bumping into the people who annoy you, or you dislike. the experience is as you make it.

The great thing about creating a bar in your garden is that it can be created to fit your budget. Whether you are converting the garden shed or summerhouse, or fancy something purpose-built there’s something for you. We have chosen some options for you to browse below, but you can start your own search here.

Could You Start a Glamping Business?

The staycation is expected to be more popular than ever this year, with hopes that lockdown will be lifted for the summer. With holidaying overseas seeming troublesome with the risk of cancellations and quarantines; camping, glamping, and caravan holidays are increasingly popular choices.

It makes sense, having been cooped up for months on end, people want to spend some time away from their homes out in nature. It would be a much-needed boost to the industry, with many campsites and tourist destinations in the UK suffering greatly over the last year.

The BBC reports that glamping holidays for 2021 are already up with people wanting to get out. David Butterworth, Chief Executive for the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, said visitor numbers after the last lockdown were unprecedented.

Can I Set-Up a Camping / Glamping Business on My Land?

With many businesses and individuals being hit hard by the pandemic, there’s an opportunity for landowners to cash in and try and make some extra money with this new staycation boom.

This opportunity can be fulfilled in several forms, from renting out a field to happy campers to pitch up a tent, to installing some glamping pods which can be utilised year-round, providing we don’t go into lockdown again.

The founder of website Pitchup.com Dan Yates, founder of Pitchup.com said: “outdoor accommodation has outperformed other categories during the pandemic”. This trend shows no sign of slowing while we are in the grips of this pandemic.

Landowners and farmers were further boosted by the relaxation of “permitted development” rules enabling campsites to open for 56 days each year instead of 28 days, without planning permission. This is great for those looking for a little extra cash during the height of summer. But the structures will need to be temporary ie movable. These could be tents, campervans or temporary pods, yurts etc.

Of course, if you wish to rent out glamping pods, year-round you will need to speak to your local council regarding planning permission and facilities including drainage etc. Operating a campsite will also mean you need to be licensed by the council. It’s important to thoroughly do your research and create a business plan.

Dining Pods – The Perfect Solution For A Pandemic

  • the featured image is a line of Dining Pods created by Lune Valley Pods. Find out more further in the article.

It’s been almost a year now since the world changed. We all had to become more insular to protect ourselves, loved ones, and the NHS from the effects of this pandemic. As a result, socialising went on the back burner, but this new way of life has had a significant impact on the hospitality industry. Pubs and restaurants are one of the worst affected sectors.

Interestingly though, people and businesses have been quick to adapt with new and exciting solutions to a very unique problem. We’ve seen visitor care pods at nursing homes, garden offices, garden gyms and now, dining pods take off to overcome problems posed by Coronavirus.

Dining pods are a fantastic way of helping a much-hit industry adapt and overcome. They come in many shapes and styles to suit all backdrops, from luxury restaurants to beer gardens and all that’s in-between.

So, while we may all still be locked down for the moment, there is renewed hope that things can start to reopen in Spring. We’ve found some early adopters of these dining pods to share with you and spark your imagination.

Bistro Pierre Eastbourne – The Bubble

Bistrot Pierre Bubble Dining Dome

Bistrot Pierre, founded in 1994, offers a range of delicious Anglo-French dishes. The Eastbourne restaurant hadn’t been open long at all when Covid first hit in 2020. Set against the beautiful backdrop of the Eastbourne seafront, they decided to install a luxury geodesic dome on the decking for diners to enjoy a meal in seclusion with their family while sheltered from the unpredictable British weather.

With seating for up to 6, in keeping with government guidelines at the time of installation, the pod went down well with diners. Here are just two reviews of the experience from trip advisor.

“Special evening spent in the bubble, it was so lovely. The views were amazing, the food was lovely, and the staff were very attentive and friendly. The place was COVID secure and felt safe. The bubble was lovely, and you can play your own music pairing with the speaker, own heating so you can control the temperature in the bubble. Certainly felt very special.”

“Booked the “bubble” for breakfast – very cosy and great views on a windswept, rainy day. Service was spot on, and value for money very good.”

The Red Hart Inn Dining Pods

red hart Inn dining cabinRed Hart Inn Dining Cabin

The red Hart Inn is a traditional country pub located in Longhope on the edge of the Forest of Dean. The pub serves home-cooked meals and provides family and dog-friendly outdoor garden to eat in. They even rear their own pigs! When covid hit the owners decided that the cold winter weather made it difficult for diners to eat outside. In November they installed The Den and Brock House outdoor dining pods for guests. These cabins provide a secluded dining experience for guests away from the elements.

The dining cabins went down well with diners, with fantastic reviews on Trip Advisor complementing the experience.

“I visited the Red Hart with friends, following Tier 2 regs by staying outside. Sharon and Kaushik have made a huge effort to provide brilliant Covid secure outdoor eating areas, really festive and cosy but very well ventilated. The Festive Menu is gorgeous, and I loved my Venison. As always service was really friendly and efficient. Can’t wait to go back!”

Lune Valley Pods Dining Domes

Lune Valley Pods Dining Pod

Lune Valley Pods recently worked on a project to create some beautiful dining pods for an eatery. We spoke to them about their gorgeous and classy designs which can be made to order and used for pubs and restaurants to offer customers a secluded dining experience, enjoying a view of the surroundings.

“The Lune Valley team are pleased to introduce our Dining Domes! Perfect for those looking to wine & dine, whilst in your very own safe space.”

“If you are a business within the catering and hospitality sector, our domes are a great way to enjoy fine dining, whilst keeping contact minimal.”

It’s clear that for now, this virus will leave us subjected to restrictions for the foreseeable future. Businesses are going to have to adapt to survive. It’s great to see these buildings being utilised to help the hospitality industry overcome the adversity imposed upon it by the virus. There’s a fantastic range of buildings which can be adapted to suit as dining pods. These include shipping containers, cabins, and domes. So, as well as some of the high-end domes, as shown above, there is also a wide range of different shapes, styles, and options out there that can work, both temporary and permanent solutions. We’ve added a few below for you to consider.
